Why???

You might ask me if I'm crazy to do some of the things I do if you knew just how swamped our April/May have been and why I'd volunteer to do a City Garage Sale. Let me give you the rundown.

Last year Justin and I helped with the Ucon Founder's Day Celebration. It was work but so fun! This year we are on the committee again. It's the 100th year Celebration for the city and so they have been constructing a monument in honor of the 100th birthday. In order to pay for the monument, the city has had some fundraising events every month to help cover the costs. One of the events was a dinner and garage sale at the elementary school.

I was asked to help out with the garage sale. People were asked to donate items to the city and drop them off the week of the sale. On Friday morning (May 5) I grabbed a few gals and we headed to the city office to sort through all of the items that would be sold. It didn't look like we had a huge amount to go through. We actually got it all onto the trailer in good time and headed to the school to get it set up! We ended up with more than we thought we had.

My husband was good enough to help out that night. He is such a great people person and was great to remind people what their money was going towards. Cooper was very cooperative that night and slept for most of it.

We didn't do too bad that night. About half way through the sale, we told everyone that the items they got were 1/2 price. With about 15 minutes left of the sale, everything was "Make an offer"! There were quite a few good deals for some people! We didn't want to haul alot of items away and so we had some people just taking stuff after it was over.

It was a great experience and such a fun night. The dinner turned out great (Baked potatoes and Reed's Dairy icecream) and we even had a band there. There was a movie for the kids to watch and games for the kids to play as well. I love living in a small town and love being involved with activities like this one. I understand that my life is busy and this was something extra to add to our chaos but it's been fun getting to know people in the area!
