Well, our school celebrated it and so we decided to participate. We live so far from the school (ha, ha) that we left about 2 minutes earlier than usual. We walked out our backyard and saw all of the kids walking down the road. What the school did was take all of those that ride a bus and dropped them off about 1 mile from the school. They then had a police escort as they walked down the road with the Fire Deptartment volunteers.
We made our way to the front of the group as they walked by our house and then made our way to the cafeteria where they were serving free breakfast for all of those that participated. It wasn't a big breakfast (which I figured would be the case so my kids ate breakfast beforehand). After breakfast, the kids were sent out to the track to walk around it until everyone was done with breakfast. School didn't start until 9:15 am that morning. It was pretty fun for the kids but I'm sure the teachers were glad when 3 pm came around. It just happened to also be school pictures that day and the kids didn't have school on Thurs or Friday that week. So, it made for a crazy Wednesday.

Hey, Carson's school did that! How fun! (Yes, Carson walked to shcool, but only from a few blocks away once the carpool dropped them off! It was too chilly that day to let them walk over a mile to schooL!)
