On the Same Team

This year both boys wanted to play baseball. We got them signed up and managed to get them both on the same team. Justin volunteered to be the assistant coach and that helped our odds of getting them on the same team. They would have been in two different leagues if he wasn't coaching.

Their team is the A's. They have mostly 11 year olds on the team with a 12 and 10 yr old (my two boys). They have played many positions so far. Braydon got to pitch in the first game they played but didn't get to pitch in last nights game. Oh well. He does good wherever he's played. Austin is getting so much more confidence in himself. Both boys could stand some practice batting.
Here are the boys in their first game. It was so windy that night that it made for an interesting game. They lost 11-5. If they had had more than 2 practices, things might have turned out different. It's hard coming from an area that is very competitive to an area that plays more like they are on the Sandlot! Things just seem more laid back here and not as much pressure to have things perfect. The fields remind me of the Sandlot- hard, crusted dirt for a field. Dugouts are old and wearing down. It just seems like this is more of a learning arena. Not that it's not a learning experience in Kuna. Everything is just a little more low key. Don't get me wrong. I don't expect it to be like the Majors by any means.


Mayci was miserable at the game on Monday. It didn't help that she didn't get a nap that day and the wind was cutting through all of us. I finally convinced her that she'd be happier in her stroller.

Their game last night had a very COLD wind. The sun shone for some of the game and that helped a little. They lost last night as well. I'm going to blame that on the umpire. He called things very poorly and relied on the other coach a lot for some of the calls. A few times he made a call and then called something different within 2 seconds. He'd even call a strike before the ball came into the box and the boys could swing. It was a frustrating game to watch.

I think the score was 6-4. Not quite sure. It got so stinkin' cold that the girls were done. I left early with them so we could warm up.

Here's Braydon going for the ball. I wish he would have had a chance to pitch last night. The coach's boy pitches and he got to pitch the last inning. He did ok but was throwing too many balls. Braydon was a good sport and kept up high energy wherever he was played. Austin did a great job hussling too.

This will be a great learning experience for all of us. Souteast Idaho weather will teach us all really fast how to come prepared for any weather!! Hopefully by the end of the season (end of June) we'll have a game with good weather!!! Wish us luck on that one!
